Gennaro Gattuso reveals sleepless nights after Italy’s World Cup failure

Published on: 04 October 2026

Gennaro Gattuso says he found it difficult to sleep after Italy’s defeat by Bosnia and Herzegovina in the spring, a result that meant the national team failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.

Gattuso was in charge of Italy at the time and struggled to come to terms with the disappointing outcome. “It was hard for me to fall asleep,” he said.

The 48-year-old is now manager of Lazio, who sit third in the Italian Serie A table. His side’s next match is against Monza on 11 October.
