Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has backed manager Michael Carrick and said the players should bear the main responsibility for the team’s recent failures.
Carrick’s position became increasingly uncertain after Manchester United followed a 4-0 Champions League defeat by Como with a 3-0 Premier League loss to Bournemouth. The results gave the club six defeats in 12 matches in all competitions this season.
Neville responded to criticism of Carrick by asking people to “imagine what is happening behind the scenes”.
