Fund-raising bike ride chance to say thanks to sponsors in Burton Albion Community Trust Ghana trip
Wayne Chadfield and his father Dave cycled 70 miles in a final fund-raising push ahead of a charity trip to Ghana, which Wayne is taking part in with Burton Albion Community Trust.

With less than a week to go until a charity trip to Ghana, one man has spoken of his final fund-raising attempt – a 70-mile bike ride to see all his sponsors.

Wayne Chadfield, 26, decided to get on his bike to visit each of the 14 people who sponsored his Ghana trip and say 'thank you' in person.

He was joined on the trip by his father Dave, who is the manager at Burton's Coopers Square shopping centre.

Wayne, a Respect Burton co-ordinator with Burton Albion Community Trust, said the ride was challenging but still enjoyable.

He added: "It was nice to meet all the people who are supporting us through sponsorship.

"The highlight was definitely when we got to Trent and Dove Housing, in Burton, and 30 people came out to greet us. It was quite overwhelming."

The pair set out from Derby and cycled all the way to Chameleon Construction, in Swadlincote.

They visited several companies in Burton including Specsavers and Hardy Signs, and then cycled over to Particle Technology, in Hatton.

The trip ended at Staffordshire Football Association, in Stafford.

Mr Chadfield will join 14 other volunteers to fly out to Ghana on Sunday, May 24. They will spend 10 days providing education and building support.

Last year, the group from Burton Albion Community Trust helped to build a school canteen and offered teaching support.

Mr Chadfield said: "I am really excited as it is getting closer and we've raised all the funds we needed.

"Hopefully I will be able to use my experience out there to make students in the schools I go into realise how fortunate we are here, especially to have an education." Anyone who would like to donate to the trip should visit www.justgiving.com/bact
