Super Falcons veteran defender Onome Ebi has been selected for the inaugural edition of the FIFA Players Executive Programme out of over 300 applicants, an initiative designed to empower participants to lead both off and on the pitch, Nigeriasoccernet.com writes.
The newly launched program is designed to support footballers beyond their playing days while also fostering greater representation of former players and coaches, both male and female, in high-level football management roles.
Furthermore, it aims to ease the often difficult transition into retirement, a period that can present significant challenges financially, emotionally, and in terms of lifestyle adjustment, acknowledging that football careers are typically short, often threatened by injury, and that only a small percentage of players attain lasting financial security.
Her acceptance letter read, "This is not just an achievement - it is the start of a game-changing journey for you, us, and football, and we are thrilled to have you on board.
"FIFA and our President believe in the potential of people like you to drive change. You are the soul of the game, and this program is designed to empower you to lead both on and off the pitch".
Over the next few months, Onome and other participants will connect with like-minded peers, engage in insightful discussions, and learn from industry leaders. More than just a learning experience, it's a chance to contribute to something bigger and leave a lasting impact on the game.
