Francesco Totti says he would have welcomed the chance to play under Gian Piero Gasperini at Roma and would not have been deterred by the manager’s demanding training sessions.

The former Roma captain, widely regarded as one of the club’s greatest players, said he would have been happy to work with Gasperini, who is currently in charge of the Serie A side.

Totti’s playing career ended in 2017 after he spent his entire senior club career with Roma. He turned 50 at the end of September.

Gasperini took over as Roma manager last summer, beginning a new chapter for the club under a coach known for his rigorous approach to preparation and training.

The former Italy international also has a connection with another notable Roma manager, Zdenek Zeman. The Czech coach worked at the club from 1997 to 1999 and returned for a second spell between 2012 and 2013.
