Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) leading scorer, Godwin Obaje, has declared that he is more concerned with a collective success of Wikki Tourists that about emerging the highest goalscorer and said his focus is on helping his team achieve their target this season.
After just 18 games with one outstanding against champions, Enyimba, Obaje's 12 goals is the highest individual effort this term - five goals more than his tally last season. There has been some attention on him with many speculating on his chances of maintaining the form to end as the top shot at the end of the season.
Reflecting on his run of good form so far, Obaje said: "Well the season has been so good for me and my mates. We did well in this first round and want to improve on our performance because the second half will be very difficult.
"I am happy to be the top scorer this first round but all the credit goes to my teammates. I just want to keep on scoring as much as possible just to help my team achieve our target this season not for personal glory - the team comes first.
"As the second round is approaching my focus is to maintain my scoring form and to work more harder because I know all eyes will be on me now but I am well prepared."
Unlike some players who set goals target for themselves, the former Mighty Jets player says he has no target thus reiterating his decision to focus on the team's success in the ongoing campaign.
"As I said, I don't have any set target this season but I want to keep on scoring as much as possible to see my team in the continent and if possible winning the league," he said.
The 19-year-old concluded by saying something the supporters would not love to hear. "I am open to a move away from Bauchi," he revealed as the mid-season transfer is ongoing.
"Yes it is true I am open to moving, but for now I am a player of Wikki Tourists until any decision is made," he concluded.
