It was yet another defeat for Venezia today in Serie A in the opening match of Matchday 2. The lagunari were in fact beaten by Udinese with a resounding 3-0 that left little room for the imagination.

Venezia are 0-2 in the campaign, collecting 0 points out of a possible 6 in what has been a nightmare start for the newly-promoted side. All is not lost, however, as it is still early in the campaign and there is room for improvement. One of the bright spots for the venetians is Italian-American midfielder Gianluca Busio, who made his debut in Serie A today, the first-ever American-born player to don Saint-Mark's colors.

After a bit of a slow start, no doubt due to debut jitters, Busio became more confident in the midfield as the minutes passed, and showed flashes of what he could bring for Venezia: a dynamic presence in the middle of the pitch that can function as a box-to-box midfielder, defending as well as making forward runs into space when the occasion presents itself. He has already shown his capabilities while representing the USMNT in this year's Gold Cup, frequently disrupting the other team's play, steling the ball and leading the attack.

Venezia and the Stars-and-Stripes team now hope he can continue to grow and help them both with Serie A survival and a World Cup berth for Qatar 2022, respectively.
