Barcelona manager Hansi Flick says he has not settled on a replacement for injured goalkeeper Joan Garcia after choosing Dominik Livakovic ahead of Wojciech Szczesny for the win at Sevilla.
Garcia missed the weekend victory after suffering a muscle injury in the first half of Barcelona’s 7-2 defeat of Racing Santander. The injury will also rule the Spain international out of the country’s forthcoming UEFA Nations League matches.
Flick had appeared likely to call on veteran goalkeeper Szczesny in Garcia’s absence, but instead handed Livakovic his Barcelona debut after making a late change to his plans.
The Croatian, who joined Barcelona in the summer following Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s loan move to Ajax, conceded the opening goal at Sevilla. Garcia’s return date remains unknown, leaving Flick with a decision to make over the position in the coming weeks.
“Sometimes you don’t just have to analyse everything; sometimes you just have a feeling,” Flick said.
“That was my feeling, and we made the decision.
“It’s not that we don’t believe in Szczesny, but I thought Livakovic could be better. It’s not a fixed situation; it’s a decision for this match.”
