Fiorentina have begun the Serie A season with three successive defeats after losing at home to Torino in the third round of the Italian championship.
The result means the Viola have yet to record anything other than a loss since the campaign began. Their defeat by Torino completed a difficult opening run and left Fiorentina facing a start matched only once before in the club’s history.
The previous occasion came in the 1935-36 season, when Fiorentina also lost each of their first three league matches. The latest sequence therefore places the club alongside a record that has stood for almost a century.
Fiorentina’s first three matches of the current Serie A campaign have all ended in defeat. The loss to Torino was the latest setback, coming in front of their home supporters and confirming that the team enters the next round still searching for its first points.
There have been no victories or draws for Fiorentina so far. Every result from the opening three rounds has gone against them, giving the club an unwanted start that mirrors the events of 1935-36.
Their next opportunity to change that run will come away from home against Venezia. The match is scheduled for Friday, 11 September, in the fourth round of Serie A.
That fixture will give Fiorentina the chance to avoid extending the sequence beyond three matches. It will also be their first opportunity of the season to produce a result different from those recorded in their opening games.
The defeat by Torino is significant because of the rarity of such a beginning in Fiorentina’s history. Before this season, only the 1935-36 campaign had seen the club lose its first three league matches. The current side has now repeated that early pattern after failing to take points from any of its opening fixtures.
Fiorentina’s immediate focus will therefore be on the trip to Venezia, where a draw or victory would end the run of consecutive defeats. Until then, the club remains without a positive result in the current Serie A season and has equalled its poorest three-match start since 1935.
