Interim Super Eagles coach, Finish George has explained the reason for his tactical decision in the friendly tie against the Black Stars of Ghana on Friday, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
Nigeria at the Grand Stade de Marrakech defeated their eternal rival, Ghana, 2-1 for the first time in 18 years.
Finidi after the game expressed his satisfaction to have seen the players performer at their best and give team the win.
“I feel happy it is not easy, you know the rivalry between Nigeria and Ghana, coming here to win is a big one for me.” Finidi said on NFF TV.
Finidi quizzed on his decision to play a similar formation to his predecessor Jose Peseiro, distanced himself from the tactical approach while he stated his reasons.
“We played with 3-5-2 but in the AFCON we saw only Osimhen. But we felt he was doing so much running alone so I wanted some other players to do that. Once a player gets the ball there is an opportunity for a pass.”
Finidi worked as assistant to Peseiro at the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations where the three times champions finished second to the host and eventual winners Côte d’Ivoire.
