Lamine Camara will continue his career with AS Monaco after a proposed move to Chelsea broke down, but manager Filipe Luis believes the Senegalese midfielder can attract interest from the biggest clubs in Europe if he maintains his current level.
Camara had been expected to leave Monaco for the Premier League, with negotiations over a transfer to Chelsea apparently close to completion. However, the talks ultimately failed and the 21-year-old must now remain with the Ligue 1 club.
The collapse of the move could have affected Camara’s state of mind and performances, especially after his departure appeared to be nearing completion. Filipe Luis, however, has attempted to calm concerns about the midfielder’s reaction to the disappointment.
The AS Monaco manager said Camara had already moved on from the episode and remained fully engaged in his work with the team.
“With everything that happened on the final day, it is certain that something in his head could affect him. But honestly, he is a special boy. I can feel it every day in training and when I work with him. He is really easy to work with.”
Filipe Luis went on to offer a strong endorsement of Camara’s ability and suggested that the player could receive an even more attractive proposal in the future if he continues to perform at the same standard.
“The football world knows Lamine Camara and his qualities; all the clubs are watching him. If he does not change, if he maintains his level, he will have something better. It will not be just one club coming for him. All the big clubs in Europe will come for him in the next transfer window, that is certain, because he is an elite player.”
Camara is therefore set to continue his time in the Principality despite the failed attempt to join Chelsea. The midfielder now faces the task of focusing on his performances for AS Monaco after the uncertainty surrounding his future was resolved without a transfer.
Filipe Luis’ comments indicate that the club retain complete confidence in Camara’s potential. Rather than viewing the failed move as a setback that could define the midfielder’s immediate future, the manager expects sustained performances to generate further opportunities.
The coach believes Camara’s reputation and qualities are already being monitored across the football world. If the Senegal international continues to show the same level and avoids any decline in form, Filipe Luis expects interest from multiple leading European clubs when the next transfer window opens.
For now, Camara remains an AS Monaco player, with Chelsea’s interest having ended without an agreement. The club will hope that the manager’s public backing helps the midfielder put the failed move behind him and concentrate on his continued development in Ligue 1.
