Fifty coaches apply for Rwanda job

The Rwanda FA has announced that close to 50 coaches have applied to take up the national team coaching position.

Olivier Mulindahabi, the FA’s Chief Executive Officer revealed to MTNFootball.com on Wednesday that they have received the applications and the shortlist will be made by end of the month.

The position fell vacant after the resignation of Englishman Stephen Constantine last month. The FA’s Technical Director Lee Johnson is currently the interim coach.

Former Sierra Leone coach Johnny McKinstry who guided the West African nation to their highest Fifa ranking – 50th last year is in the running for the top job as well as former Azam and Sofapaka coach Stewart Hall who is currently in charge of the Tanzania U-17 and U-20 national sides.

Top local coaches including AS Kigali coach Eric Nshimiyimana, Andre Cassa Mbungo of Police FC, APR interim coach Vincent Mashami and former Amavubi assistant coach Jean Baptiste Kayiranga have all refused to apply for the job.

The next coach who will be appointed will lead the Amavubi in the 2017 Afcon qualifiers, 2018 World Cup qualifiers and the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup which will all take place this year. Rwanda will also host the 2016 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN).
