Fernandes aiming to match Ronaldo trophy haul at Man United

Gab Marcotti and Julien Laurens break down the latest developments on Man United's pursuit of Jadon Sancho.

Julien Laurens thinks it will be quite a feat if Manchester United are able to keep hold of Paul Pogba.

Craig Burley says he has "no idea" how the Premier League will resolve the Champions League race.

Julien Laurens says Atleti flop Thomas Lemar is a player who is on Manchester United's radar this summer.

Bruno Fernandes has set himself a target of matching compatriot Cristiano Ronaldo's trophy haul at Manchester United.

Fernandes has made a blistering start to his career at Old Trafford after arriving in January, scoring three goals in nine appearances but he has some way to go if he is going to compete against Ronaldo's 118 goals, three Premier League titles and a Champions League win.

United are on a run of nine games unbeaten since his transfer from Sporting Lisbon but the midfielder insists he won't be happy until he has followed in the footsteps of Portugal teammate Ronaldo and fellow former Red Nani by winning the Premier League title and the Champions League.

"Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani won big trophies here and that makes me want to achieve that," Fernandes told Canal 11.

"Nani, with whom I had the opportunity to train at Sporting, has always spoken well to me about Manchester United.

"And the fact that Cristiano has given a lot good references to whoever spoke to him during my transfer makes me proud, for a player like him to recognise my worth."

United paid Sporting an initial £47 million for Fernandes but that fee could rise to more than £70m if a series of bonus targets are met.

It looks like a good deal given the 25-year-old's impressive start but he believes his new club have been forced to pay over the odds.

"Never were the values so high as now," Fernandes said.

"I think it's an exaggeration. My transfer, the figure mentioned, the add-ons that could still be, the value that was paid for me was very high. Players that were bought at that value some time ago were Golden Ball winners."
