Fan Discontent as Owen Coyle Set to Be Confirmed as New Blackburn Manager

Published on: 01 June 2016

Owen Coyle is set to become the new Blackburn Rovers manager, according to the "?Lancashire Telegraph, with the report also suggesting that he could even be announced at some point on Thursday.

Fan discontent is close to boiling point however, with large swaths of supporters perturbed by the looming appointment. Coyle lost just under half of his games at MLS side Houston Dynamo and struggled with Wigan too.

The fans at Blackburn have made their opinion on the owners clear recently, with a resurgence in the #VenkysOut campaign. However, another trend, #CoyleOut is also gaining momentum, even prior to the appointment being announced.

Houston fans have also waded in, wishing Blackburn good luck, while some fans have been rather inventive in telling the official Blackburn twitter account (@Rovers) how they feel about the situation.

"?"?It's certainly worrying times for Blackburn, fourth favourites for relegation, with just 14 recognised first-team players and no CEO going in to 2016/17.

However, whoever does become the new manager, will invariably need the backing of the fans, with the season already threatening to end in disappointment even before it has even started.

If Owen Coyle appointed today dont even bother sending me a season ticket renewal pack @Rovers #VenkysOut

"?"?Season ticket sales could hit record lows next season, with many taking to twitter to announce that they will not be renewing next season.

With Coyle a former manager of Lancashire rivals Burnley and Bolton, as well as Wigan, the prospect isn't going down well with Blackburn fans.

The Scot was also involved in the SEM & Kentaro groups some time ago and also sympathised with Steve Kean during his turbulent time at the club.

With Leeds the frontrunners to appoint Garry Monk as their next manager after just a few days without a manager, Blackburn fans have every right to be frustrated with the time it's taken for Venky's to complete the process of assessing the candidates.

Most fans would also tell you that Gary Monk is a much more accomplished appointment than Coyle.

Some would look at Coyle's average win percentage of 40% and suggest he could surprise people, but those figures are only high because of his time at Scottish sides, much earlier on in his career.

Forced out of Houston and Wigan, Coyle hasn't been exactly impressed fans of those clubs, but Rovers fan will hope for a repeat of his Burnley exploits, having successfully led the club to promotion in 2008.
