Fabrice Shema has resigned as president of the Federation Rwandaise de Football (FERWAFA), only months after being elected to the position in August 2025.
The unexpected departure brings his brief term at the head of Rwandan football to an end and represents another change in the federation’s leadership. During his time in office, Shema sought to establish a new direction by restructuring FERWAFA and improving the standing of football in Rwanda.
The governing body has not yet fully disclosed the reasons behind his sudden decision.
FERWAFA must now manage the transition through its executive committee and arrange new elections within the timeframe set out in its statutes. Shema’s resignation leaves Rwandan football needing to restore institutional stability quickly as it continues with its ongoing projects.
