Fabian Ruiz says he was not surprised by Ferran Torres’ hat-trick for Paris Saint-Germain in their 6-1 Champions League victory over Slovan.
Torres, who joined the French club from Barcelona during the summer, scored three times as Paris Saint-Germain recorded a convincing win in Europe. The Spain international’s performance continued an impressive start to his time with the team managed by Luis Enrique.
“I am not surprised,” Ruiz said when asked about Torres’ three-goal display.
The hat-trick took Torres’ total to five goals in four matches for Paris Saint-Germain in all competitions. The 26-year-old forward has made an immediate impact since completing his move to the Paris-based club, having arrived from Barcelona in a transfer reported to have cost almost €50m.
Ruiz, a Paris Saint-Germain midfielder, was speaking about the progress of his new team-mate after Torres produced his most notable performance since the move. His three goals against Slovan formed the central part of a 6-1 Champions League success and added to the five goals he has scored across his first four games for the club.
Torres joined Luis Enrique’s squad in the summer after Paris Saint-Germain agreed a deal with Barcelona for the striker. The transfer fee for the 26-year-old was close to €50m, underlining the French club’s investment in the forward.
His record of five goals in four appearances gives him an average of more than one goal per game since arriving in Paris. The latest three came in the Champions League against Slovan, where his finishing helped Paris Saint-Germain to a five-goal margin of victory.
For Ruiz, however, Torres’ form was no surprise. The midfielder’s assessment came after the Spain forward had delivered a decisive contribution in a match that ended 6-1. Torres’ hat-trick was the defining feature of the result, while his continued scoring form has quickly become a notable part of his early spell with Paris Saint-Germain.
The result also provided a clear account of the striker’s contribution in his first four matches for the club. With five goals in total, including the three against Slovan, Torres has started his Paris Saint-Germain career with a sequence of performances that has drawn praise from Ruiz.
The forward’s move from Barcelona and immediate return in front of goal have therefore been central to the early story of his time under Luis Enrique. Ruiz’s message was straightforward: Torres’ hat-trick was an outstanding achievement, but not an unexpected one.
