"?The Football Association are ready to offer interim England manager Gareth Southgate the job on a full time basis after his performance in the role since succeeding Sam Allardyce, according to the "?Telegraph.

Southgate guided the Three Lions to a 3-0 victory over Scotland last week, and the FA are now set to hand him a deal worth £1.5m-a-year until 2020 following Tuesday night's clash with Spain.

The former Middlesbrough manager has demonstrated over the three games of his four-game stint as interim boss that he has the tools to do the job on a full time basis, and he's set to be handed the deal soon after the match with Julen Lopetegui's side.

The report claims the contract will have a break clause inserted for after the 2018 World Cup; and could be triggered dependent on England's success in Russia. The intention, though, is for Southgate to continue for the four year spell at least.

Southgate's fast-track to the England job set to continue tomorrow with the mandatory, comprehensive but yet forgettable 2-0 Wembley defeat.

Speaking ahead of the Spain game, Southgate said on how he's grown since taking the interim job on: "I'm not sure if I've learnt about myself because I was very aware of what I am, what I'm capable of, what I do.

"I've learnt about the role, I've learnt about the players and everything that surrounds the international set-up. Part of coach development is knowing yourself anyway and then everyone else is a lot more comfortable.

"The insight has been into everything else that surrounds being in the position. Also, it's fascinating to see what is possible and achievable with this group of players.

"Definitely, there is high potential. I still think there is a long way to go. The last two tournaments are a benchmark of where we're at so we can't keep talking about "?we're good, we're this, we're that'.

"We have to prove it and that means a lot of work ahead for whoever is in the position to take the team forward."
