Kogi United are out of the 2023 Federation Cup after losing on penalties to Mailantarki Care FC in their round 64 clash in Jos on Wednesday, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
The Nigeria National League, NNL side from Lokoja lost 8-7 on penalties to their fellow NNL from Abuja after their tie ended in regulation time goalless.
It was a feisty tie between the two teams which pushed at several occasions to outwit the other, but chances went begging for conversion.
In the first half, goalkeeper Suleiman Hussain of Care FC parried over the bar the ball of Tijani Umar in the 33rd minute.
Three minutes later, it was the turn of Rabiu Umar of United to parry a dangerous curled corner kick as the two sides went for goal.
In the 39th minute, Kogi's Abdulsalam Abdulhameed stretched full length to remove a goal bound ball from the feet of Sadik Baqqah as Care FC edged it till the end of the first half.
The second half saw Kogi United dominate proceedings as Garba Mohammed should have put his side ahead, but his effort was too weak to beat Suleiman Hussain in goal.
Mailantarki came close to scoring some minutes later, but Rabiu Umar did the needful.
Tijani Umar had on two occasions opportunity to put Kogi United ahead, but he misses the chances as it 0-0 before the penalty shot out ended 8-7 in favour of Mailantarki Care FC who progress to the round of 32.
