Ghanaian midfielder Gideon Jung turned down the opportunity to play for Germany U21 in their qualifiers this weekend claiming he is injured, sparking hopes that he prefers to play for the Black Stars, GHANAsoccernet.com can exclusively reveal.

The 20-year-old, whose parents are Ghanaians, has been a massive revelation in the Bundesliga this season after being promoted to the senior team of Hamburg.

Germany demonstrated their intention of capping Hamburg's prodigious youth midfielder by handing him a call-up to their U21 side ahead of this weekend's qualifiers.

Germany U21 Horst Hrubesch has recognized the massive promise showed by the versatile midfielder in his opening three Bundesliga games and handed him his debut call-up to a German U21 national team.

However, the youngster says he is injured and will miss the European Championship qualifier because of problems with his calf muscle.

Jung's call-up has been withdrawn and a replacement has been called to fill the midfield position ahead of the qualifier.

Jung, who turns 21 next month, was born to Ghanaian parents in the German town of Düsseldorf but has yet to be contacted by the Ghana Football Association.

Hamburg SV manager Bruno Labaddia kept faith in Jung and rejected loan offers after watching him impress in 23 appearances for Hamburg’s second string side last season.
