EXCLUSIVE: Eagles Shortlisted Coach Sainntfiet Set To Be Hired By Bangladesh

Published on: 13 July 2016

Bangladesh are close to appointing the Belgian Tom Saintfiet, who is one of three coaches shortlisted by Nigeria to take over the Super Eagles.

Forty-three year old Belgian, Tom Saintfiet has been invited by the Bangladeshi Football Federation for talks about taking over their national team, a reliable source has confirmed to AfricanFootball.com

“Tom Saintfiet is in Dhaka, the Bangladesh capital as we speak,” the source informed AfricanFootball.com

“He was invited by the BFF for talks about the possibility of becoming their new coach,” the source added.

Media reports in the South Asian country suggest Saintfiet has already been appointed as their new coach, but when AfricanFootball.com reached out to him, he confirmed he has been invited for talks, but says he hasn’t agreed a deal with them.

“Yes, I am in Bangladesh and I have an offer from them and they are waiting for me to sign but I will wait for a decision by the Nigeria Football Federation,” he told AfricanFootball.com

Saintfiet was shortlisted last week by the NFF as Sunday Oliseh’s possible replacement, along with Salisu Yusuf and Paul Le Guen.

The local media in Nigeria have been reporting that the NFF will pick Le Guen, but the ‘Glass House’ are yet to make any official pronouncements.

Meanwhile, if Saintfiet goes on to accept the Bangladesh job, he will be replacing former Heartland of Owerri coach, Lodewijk de Kruif.
