Ex-Ghana FA vice-chairman Ade Coker has pooh-poohed 'sinking' Hearts of Oak’s survival push and says it will be in the best interest of the club to suffer relegation from the country’s top-flight to serve as a bitter lesson to the powerhouse.
The former African champions have endured perhaps their worst performance in the top-flight where they are currently flirting with relegation.
The African giants lost 2-1 against bitter rivals Asante Kotoko in the Super clash on Sunday to condemn them to 15th on the league standings with only five games to end the season.
While fans are anxious to see their club fight on to save their top-flight status, former Ghana FA vice-chairman Ade Coker wants the club to embrace relegation claiming it will inure to their benefit.
“Hearts won’t be the first team to be relegated. Olympics have gone before. It doesn’t matter,” he told Accra-based Atinka FM.
“They should go and come back. Why don’t go they go and get a holistic feel of what is happening there (in Division One League), than stay in the Premier League and keep struggling?
“They need to go and come back.”
In what appears to be an unsavory remark, the former Great Olympics chairman could court the anger of the suffering Hearts fans.
Hearts face a potential demotion to the country’s second-tier unless they pull off magical displays against Liberty Professionals (A), Bechem United (A), Medeama (A), Berekum Chelsea (H) and WAFA (A) in their next five crucial games.
