Published on: 06 May 2021

Introduction

It’s been a long year. COVID-19 caused many industries to suffer throughout the past year, especially the sports industry. Game after game was canceled, up to the point where many scheduled tournaments didn't happen.

One such example is the Euro 2020 tournament, which was delayed by an entire year. Well, that year-long delay is almost up, and teams are getting ready to duke it out in this year’s Euros.

With little more than a month left until the games, it’s a good idea to get a refresher on what teams will be participating, when they are playing, and how you can watch the games.

What You Need to Know

When the Tournament Takes Place

The Euros will take place from June 11th to July 11th, the originally scheduled dates for last year. All group-stage matches will run from June 11th to June 23rd. After that, the tournament will take two rest days and begin the knockout games after. The knockouts will run from June 26th to July 11th, with the Final taking place on the 11th.

What Countries are Participating

There will be a total of 24 countries participating in this year’s Euros tournament. Countries’ teams will be split into six groups:

  • Group A will consist of Italy, Switzerland, Turkey, and Wales.
  • Group B will consist of Belgium, Russia, Denmark, and Finland.
  • Group C will contain Ukraine, Netherlands, Austria, and North Macedonia.
  • Group D will consist of England, Croatia, Czech Republic, and Scotland.
  • Group E will consist of Spain, Poland, Sweden, and Slovakia.
  • And finally, Group F will consist of Germany, France, Portugal, and Hungary.

The matches will take place in various countries over the next month. From the Johan Cruyff Arena in Amsterdam to the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, the tournament will take place in 11 countries.

How Fans Can Watch the Tournament Online

Live Television

Some TV channels will be broadcasting the Euros this year. These channels are typically free to access, but they aren’t available in every country. Typically, only the countries that are participating in the Euros will go through the trouble of broadcasting the games.

For example, it’s a sure bet that Spain, Germany, France, and the United Kingdom will be broadcasting the games through their respective channels. If you’re not in the country, however, accessing the channels can be difficult—that is, unless you have a VPN (Virtual Private Network).

With a VPN, you can connect to a server in the country hosting the channel(s) you need to watch the games. If you don’t already have a VPN, you can get a free VPN trial and use it during the tournament.

Streaming Services

Fans in Nigeria have a couple of options provided to them if they want to watch the Euro 2020 tournament. According to the UEFA website, the tournament will be available for streaming on SuperSport, Star Times, and Canal” Afrique.

Out of the three, it will probably be best to go with SuperSport, as it’s a service dedicated wholly to sports and will most likely show the most matches. However, the other two are still good options.

Using these streaming services requires a subscription, however, so that means paying for a monthly subscription to watch the matches. Fortunately, none of the services listed are too expensive.

Conclusion

With the Euros starting in a little over a month, there’s no time to waste. Get your streaming options set up, prepare your schedule for the next month, and learn who’s participating. Euro 2020 is sure to be a fantastic tournament.
