Manchester City have made contact with Everton over a potential move for right winger Iliman Ndiaye after Liverpool rejected an approach for Cody Gakpo, according to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Gakpo had been Manchester City’s preferred option, but Liverpool were unable to find a replacement for the Netherlands international and decided not to let him leave. As a result, Manchester City have shifted their attention to Ndiaye as an alternative target.
Romano reports that Manchester City have already opened discussions with Everton about a possible transfer for the Senegal international.
Ndiaye, 26, is valued at €55m, while his current contract with Everton runs until 30 June 2029. Those terms mean Everton remain in a strong negotiating position should Manchester City decide to pursue the deal further.
The winger has made three appearances for Everton in the 2026-27 season and has provided one assist.
Manchester City’s interest in Ndiaye follows their failed attempt to secure Gakpo, who had been identified as the club’s priority target. Liverpool’s decision to retain the Dutchman has prompted the Premier League champions to consider other options in the wide areas.
Ndiaye is now the player attracting Manchester City’s attention, with initial contact already established between the two clubs. However, the available information does not indicate that a transfer agreement has been reached or that formal negotiations have progressed beyond those opening discussions.
The Senegal international’s long-term deal at Everton, together with his €55m market valuation, could make any move a significant investment for Manchester City. His current record in the 2026-27 campaign stands at three matches and one assist.
For now, Ndiaye has emerged as the alternative to Gakpo in Manchester City’s plans after Liverpool chose not to release their forward.
