Everton have reached an agreement with Manchester City to re-sign Jack Grealish on loan for the 2026-27 season, according to David Ornstein.
The 30-year-old winger is set to return to the club after a previous loan spell at Everton was ended prematurely by injury. Grealish made 22 appearances last season, scoring twice and recording six assists before being forced to the sidelines.
There was significant interest in Grealish during the summer, including from Sunderland, but Everton were understood to be his preferred destination. The agreement with Manchester City now means he is in line to return to a club where he enjoyed several encouraging moments during his first spell.
Grealish joined Manchester City from Aston Villa for £100 million four years ago. However, his opportunities at the club became increasingly limited, and he was completely frozen out by former Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola.
His loan move to Everton last summer offered him the chance to play more regularly, and he made an impact before his campaign was cut short. His two goals and six assists came across 22 games, although the injury prevented him from completing the season.
The latest agreement is also significant because Grealish’s Manchester City contract is due to expire at the end of the season. Despite that situation, Everton and Manchester City have reportedly settled on a loan arrangement that will see the England international remain at Goodison Park for the 2026-27 campaign.
The deal comes after reports that Manchester City had reached an agreement in principle to sign Everton forward Iliman Ndiaye for £65 million. That proposed transfer provides the wider context for the discussions between the two clubs, although Grealish’s return has been agreed separately as a loan move.
Everton’s decision to bring Grealish back reflects the value they placed on his contribution before injury interrupted his first season with the club. The winger’s ability to create chances and provide assists was a key part of his impact during the 22 appearances he made.
For Grealish, the move represents another opportunity to establish himself away from Manchester City after a difficult period at the club. He had been signed from Aston Villa for a British-record £100 million, but ultimately found himself out of favour under Guardiola.
Everton were always Grealish’s first choice despite competition for his signature, with Sunderland among the other clubs reported to have shown interest. Subject to the completion of the relevant arrangements, he will now continue his career with Everton on loan in 2026-27.
