Everton end Goodison Park era with 2-0 win over Aribo's Southampton

Everton marked the end of an era with a fitting 2-0 victory over relegated Southampton, as Iliman Ndiaye scored twice to give the club a memorable farewell to Goodison Park after 133 years of history.

Super Eagles midfielder Joe Aribo started for the Saints and was subbed off in the 60th minute, while fellow Nigerian Paul Onuachu was left out of the matchday squad.

On a historic day in front of 39,201 fans, Ndiaye opened the scoring in the 6th minute with a curling strike and added a second in first-half stoppage time (45+2), rounding Aaron Ramsdale to tap into an empty net.

Although Beto had two goals ruled out for offside, and Everton managed just one shot on target in the second half, Jordan Pickford’s late save preserved the clean sheet and ensured the last goal at Goodison belonged to the Toffees.

Everton’s final stats at the iconic venue read:

  • 2,789 matches

  • 1,538 wins

  • 660 draws

  • 591 losses

The club will move to the 52,888-capacity Hill Dickinson Stadium at Bramley Moore Dock next season, with Goodison Park set to host Everton Women’s team going forward.

The win also saw Southampton become the most-beaten Premier League team at Goodison Park, capping off a bittersweet milestone for both clubs.
