EPL: Brentford 0 Chelsea 0 : Onyeka in action for one hour, Chukwuemeka shows his class

Published on: 20 October 2022

Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka was in action for Brentford in their 0-0 draw with Chelsea.

Onyeka played sixty minutes of the encounter before being taken off for Shandon Baptiste.

The Nigeria international was rewarded with a second consecutive start after playing a pivotal role in the 2-0 win over Brighton And Hove Albion last weekend.

Anglo Nigerian youngster Carney Chukwuemeka was impressive but on the other hand was unable to help Chelsea secure three maximum points despite coming on as a second half substitute.

In the first 20 minutes of action, nothing significant was witnessed in the game. In the 26th minute Onyeka drove into the eighteen yard box but was stopped by Trevoh Chalobah.

The first half was largely controlled by Chelsea but they failed to make the possession count and the half ended goalless.

The second half resumed with the same intensity but a braver Brentford side was seen.

Chukwuemeka would go on to make his second Premier League appearance two minutes after Onyeka left the pitch.

In the 77th minute, the England youth international thought he had won a penalty as he was brought down in the box, but the referee never bought the idea.

Chukwuemeka is making his first appearance since making his debut for Chelsea in their 3-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday 8th of October, 2022.

The England U20 international came close to winning the game for Chelsea but was denied by a brilliant stop by David Raya in the 90th minute.

The Super Eagles eligible midfielder has made the Blues' matchday squad for five Premier League games.
