Enyimba ended their winless start to the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League season with a convincing 4-2 victory over Shooting Stars.
The hosts took the lead after six minutes when Richard Ezinna capitalised on a defensive mistake by Shooting Stars to open the scoring.
Enyimba remained in control and doubled their advantage in the 28th minute. Chibueze Damian found the target with a long-range effort to put the home side firmly in charge.
Their pressure continued before half-time, with Odinaka Obichere setting up Idris Abubakar for Enyimba’s third goal nine minutes before the interval. Abubakar kept his composure to finish and give his side a 3-0 lead at the break.
Enyimba added a fourth four minutes into the second half, when Ifeanyi Ihemekwele completed the scoring for the hosts.
Shooting Stars reduced the deficit in the 76th minute through substitute Mustapha Adams Agba’a, while Johnmark Aule scored again for the visitors in added time. The late goals, however, could not prevent Enyimba from securing their first league victory of the campaign.
Elsewhere, defending champions Rangers climbed to the top of the NPFL standings after a 1-0 away win against Warri Wolves in Ozoro.
Godwin Obaje scored the only goal of the match from the penalty spot in the 11th minute. The experienced forward’s effort was enough to give Rangers all three points and move them into first place.
Rivers United were held to a 1-1 draw by Katsina United at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium.
The home side took the lead two minutes after the restart through Samson Olasupo. Their advantage lasted only three minutes, however, before Sani Mubarak levelled with a well-taken free-kick.
There was also a stalemate in Lagos, where Sporting Lagos and Ikorodu City played out a goalless draw in their local derby at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan. Neither side could find a breakthrough as the points were shared.
