Premier League champions will launch a £14 million bid for Augsburg left-back Abdul Baba Rahman this week as they look to secure a replacement for Filipe Luis, reports the Guardian.

There has been some disagreement over the fee for Luis, with the Guardian’s report suggesting the price is £16 million. However, it seems certain that he will be returning to Atletico Madrid.

And the man to replace him will be Rahman and although Augsburg want £17.5 million for the player they signed last summer they are likely to accept a lower offer, according to the aforementioned source.

Rahman’s rise over the past couple of seasons has been hugely impressive and he played a key part in Augsburg’s success last term.

There are some question marks over his positioning but unlike Luis he is still very young so could be re-trained by manager Jose Mourinho.

Like Luis, he will face a tough test to try and dislodge first choice Cesar Azpilicueta with the Spanish full-back having established himself as one of the best in the Premier League.

Of course one option for Jose Mourinho could be to move Azpilicueta over to the right, but then it will be up to Rahman to offer Eden Hazard the same levels of protection.
