"?UEFA released the final standings of the best-rated players during the recent international tournament in France.

And Europe's governing body has declared that Three Lions defender Chris Smalling was the highest-ranked England star.

The centre-half finished in 44th position on UEFA's player barometer - a standing which is indicative of England's overall performance at the Euros this summer.

Fellow Manchester United player Wayne Rooney, along with Tottenham trio Eric Dier, Harry Kane and Kyle Walker were the other four England internationals to make the top 100 for Roy Hodgson's side.

France's Dimitri Payet finished in first place, with French forward Antoine Griezmann and Wales' Gareth Bale finishing second and third respectively.

The UEFA Euro 2016 Player Barometer determined each player's final position based on a number of key factors.

The form of each individual player was tracked before, and during, the competition to give an initial base ranking for each of the 552 players at the tournament.

Each player was then ranked via key statistics for their positions on the field.

Using Smalling as an example, the defender's statistics or tackles, interceptions, headers and blocks were taken into account to give the 26-year-old a final place in the overall standings.

England crashed out of Euro 2016 after suffering a shock 2-1 defeat to Iceland in the last-16 stage of the tournament.

Roy Hodgson announced his resignation as England boss in the aftermath of their elimination.
