Nigeria International Emmanuel Emenike’s goal on Wednesday proved to be inadequate as Fenerbahce crashed out of the Uefa Champions League on 3-4 aggregate to AS Monaco.

His second half strike represented nothing more than mere consolation as the Turkey club suffered a 1-3 defeat to lose out 3-4 on aggregate to the French side, AS Monaco.

AS Monaco raced to a two-goal lead at the Stade Louis II thanks to goals from Valere Germain and Radamel Falcao to put themselves in the box seat.

The Nigerian came close to scoring early in the second half when his fierce right-footed drive clattered against the cross bar with the AS Monaco goalkeeper, Danijel Subasic beaten.

Emenike made no mistake in the 53rd minute when he swept home a cross from the right to halve the deficit.

Another Valere goal proved decisive for the hosts as Fener crashed out by the slimmest of margins.

From a personal perspective, it has been a happy period for Emenike who has now scored six goals in his last four matches for Fenerbahce.
