Lilian Brassier has left Stade Rennais to join Eintracht Frankfurt on a contract running until June 2031, with the Bundesliga club confirming the signing on its official website.
The 26-year-old Franco-Togolese defender has agreed to a five-season deal after Eintracht Frankfurt reached an agreement with Rennes. The transfer fee is understood to be €9.2m, although the figure could rise to €12m if the performance-related bonuses included in the agreement are met.
Brassier joined Stade Rennais in January 2025 and spent around 18 months with the Breton club. During that time, he made 41 appearances and helped bring greater stability to a defence that had been searching for consistency and established partnerships.
His spell in Rennes also represented an important stage in his career rehabilitation. Brassier had endured a difficult six-month period at Olympique de Marseille before moving to Brittany, where he was able to regain confidence and return to regular first-team football.
The move to Eintracht Frankfurt gives Brassier the opportunity to test himself in a new league after building a considerable top-level resume in France. He was developed and first made his name in particular at Stade Brestois, and has now accumulated 161 Ligue 1 appearances.
His career has taken him from Brest to Marseille and then Rennes. He will now begin a new chapter in Germany, where he will be expected to compete for a place in an Eintracht Frankfurt squad with ambitions domestically and in European competition.
The length of the contract reflects the confidence the German club has placed in Brassier. At 26, he is moving abroad at a stage when he already has extensive experience of senior football but still has time to establish himself as a key player in the Bundesliga.
