Egypt v South Africa: Pharaohs hold narrow edge in Cairo friendly

Published on: 03 October 2026

Egypt and South Africa will meet in a friendly at Cairo International Stadium on Sunday, 4 October 2026, with both sides looking to build on promising recent results.

Kick-off is scheduled for 18:00 GMT in Cairo. The match will be broadcast by beIN SPORTS and SuperSport.

The fixture brings together two national teams with a long history of meetings in African football. They have faced one another 15 times, with South Africa holding the better record: eight victories to Egypt’s five, while the other two matches ended in draws.

Egypt won the most recent competitive encounter, beating the Bafana Bafana 1-0 at CAN 2025.

Egypt enter the friendly with confidence after recording a convincing 5-0 victory over South Sudan. However, their results in their past five matches have been mixed, with two wins, two draws and one defeat.

South Africa have also made a strong start to their latest campaign. The Bafana Bafana won both of their opening matches in the CAN 2027 qualifiers, defeating Guinea 2-1 before claiming a 5-0 victory against Eritrea.

Those results give both teams reason for optimism ahead of their meeting, although Egypt’s home advantage and their latest emphatic win give them a slight edge. South Africa’s recent form, however, suggests the contest could be closely fought.

Africafoot’s prediction is a 2-1 win for Egypt.

The betting odds listed ahead of the match put Egypt at 1.72 to win, with a draw priced at 3.50 and a South Africa victory at 6.47.
