Egypt provide three of the 11 players selected in the provisional team of the second round of Africa Cup of Nations 2027 qualifying, following their emphatic 5-0 victory over South Sudan.
Selected in an attacking 4-4-2 formation, the line-up is based on ratings provided by Afrik-Foot’s partner Sportmonks. It features players from nine different countries, with Egypt the only nation represented more than once.
The team remains provisional because Angola’s match against Malawi is due to be played on 6 October.
Defence
Guinea-Bissau goalkeeper Fernando Embadje earns his place after making five saves in his side’s surprise 3-0 win over Nigeria, a result which helped secure one of the round’s biggest upsets.
Comoros right-back Bendjaloud Youssoufa was selected after scoring the only goal in a 1-0 victory against Namibia.
On the opposite flank, Zambia’s David Hamansenya impressed during the 2-0 win over Togo. He created three key passes and contested four aerial duels.
Malian centre-back Nathan Gassama produced a strong display in the 1-0 victory away to Liberia, making 10 clearances and competing in four aerial duels.
He is joined in central defence by Egypt’s Rami Rabia, whose clean sheet against South Sudan completes the back four.
Midfield and attack
Morocco’s Azzedine Ounahi takes one of the central midfield positions after scoring in the 2-0 win over Lesotho. He was also heavily involved throughout the match and made three key passes.
His Egypt team-mate Emam Ashour was decisive in the victory over South Sudan, providing one assist and four key passes.
On the left, Relebohile Mofokeng receives the maximum rating of 10/10 after an outstanding performance for South Africa in their 5-0 win against Eritrea. The Union Saint-Gilloise winger scored twice and created three key passes.
Benin forward Rodolfo Aloko completes the midfield line on the right after also scoring twice, in his country’s match against Mauritania, while adding two key passes.
The attack features an Egyptian-Tunisian partnership. Egypt’s Omar Marmoush scored twice in the win over South Sudan, while Tunisia’s Hazem Mastouri also netted a double as the Carthage Eagles defeated Botswana.
Egypt’s three representatives make them the most prominent nation in the selection, which reflects the team’s commanding performance in their five-goal victory.
