Egypt’s football authorities have intervened to address growing tension between Mohamed El-Shenawy and the Hassan brothers’ coaching staff after the goalkeeper was left out of the starting line-up for the third World Cup match against Iran.

According to cairo24, El-Shenawy remains unhappy with the decision, which has caused significant controversy within the national team. The experienced goalkeeper is reported to have struggled to accept his omission from the side.

Concern has increased after El-Shenawy withdrew from the squad with what was described as a recent injury. Within the Egypt camp, some people reportedly view the injury as a diplomatic explanation that allowed him to leave the gathering while making his dissatisfaction clear.

The absence has added to an already difficult atmosphere around the Pharaohs. The circumstances surrounding the withdrawal have fuelled speculation about the strength of the relationship between El-Shenawy and the technical staff.

In response to the developing dispute, Hany Abo Rida has arranged a high-level meeting involving the goalkeeper and the coaching staff. The purpose of the meeting is to ease the disagreement, seek a reconciliation and protect unity within the squad.
