Edouard Mendy has announced his retirement from international football with Senegal at the age of 34, bringing an end to his time with the Lions of Teranga after representing his country since 2018.

The goalkeeper won 59 caps for Senegal and played a key role during one of the most successful periods in the national team’s history.

Mendy was part of the Senegal side that won the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon in 2021, before helping the team claim the 2025 title. He also featured at two World Cups, in 2022 and 2026.

His international achievements came alongside major personal recognition. In 2021, Mendy was named FIFA’s best goalkeeper after an outstanding year that included winning the Champions League with Chelsea.

Mendy’s decision marks the conclusion of an important chapter for Senegal, with the goalkeeper having contributed to the team’s biggest successes in recent years.
