Rafiu Durosinmi scored shortly after half-time to earn Genk a 1-1 draw with KAA Gent in the Belgian Pro League on Sunday.

Genk, known as the Smurfs, were forced to recover after Momodou Sonko gave the visitors the lead after only 10 minutes.

But Durosinmi levelled two minutes after the restart, continuing an impressive run in front of goal. The Nigeria international has now scored five league goals in six appearances for Genk this season.

The forward was later named Man of the Match and said he was pleased to have helped his side take something from a difficult contest.

“I am happy to have been voted Man of the Match again. It also feels good to be the top scorer at the moment,” Durosinmi said, according to the club’s official website.

He also highlighted the support of his family and wife, who were present to encourage him.

“In football, anything is possible, but you have to believe in it. My family and my wife are here to cheer me on, and that feels good,” he added.

Durosinmi acknowledged that Genk had faced a challenging opponent but felt the result represented a positive outcome, particularly given Gent’s defensive record.

“It certainly wasn’t an easy match. Considering the fact that they hardly conceded any goals, this is quite a good performance,” he said.

“Now, we mainly need to remember the positive points and take them with us to the next match.”

The draw leaves Genk looking to improve their result in their next league fixture, when they travel to face Club Brugge on Sunday.
