Rafiu Durosinmi is confident Genk can recover from their disappointing start and challenge for the Belgian Pro League title this season.
Genk are ninth in the standings after six matches, with nine points from two wins, three draws and one defeat. Despite sitting outside the leading positions, Durosinmi believes the team can improve quickly and mount a serious challenge for top honours.
“This is absolutely not where we want to be,” Durosinmi told Walfoot.
The forward acknowledged that Genk must improve their results, particularly after drawing three of their opening six league matches.
“I am convinced that we will soon return to the top of the rankings. As a team, we just have to do better,” he said.
“We don’t want to be in this position, and we don’t want to continue drawing games. We always want to play for the three points because our goal is to fight for the title.”
Durosinmi also pointed to the commitment of his team-mates, saying their attitude in training and during matches gave him confidence that Genk could compete with the clubs currently challenging near the top of the table.
“I see the group we have. Everyone is ready to give their all in every training session and every match,” he added.
“Why couldn’t we compete with the teams fighting for the title? We are also capable of it.”
