Donald Trump Made a Memorable Contribution to English Football Over 20 Years Ago

This weekend Donald Trump caused outrage among the feminist community after a video emerged of him in 2005 in which he said his celebrity status allowed him to grope and kiss women.

But The Sun has revealed long before his presidential campaign Trump made a worthy contribution to English football.

Back in 1992, ITV travelled to New York for a special edition of Saint and Greavsie. Jim Rosenthal recalled how the situation came about and said:

"We're in New York City and we need to do the draw for the Rumbelows Cup "? the League Cup "? and I said I've got a number for Robert De Niro, I'll try him.

"And they came back. "?Bobby would love to do that for ya but he's otherwise engaged. So we looked up, Trump Tower, let's try Donald Trump,"?

The notorious American politician isn't a man to engage in small things and he pulled out balls that resulted in the bumper class between Leeds and Man United.

"You don't realise what you've done there!"? shouted Jimmy Greaves.

"That sounds like a game I'd wanna go to,"? replied Trump.

"Tell you what Donald, are you thinking of opening a store in England?"? Greaves asked. "Take my advice, you can open one in Leeds but don't go to Manchester."?

When the match came about Man United pulled off a surprise 3-1 victory thanks to starring roles from Andrei Kanchelskis and a young Ryan Giggs.

Man United went on to win the League Cup with a 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest in the final. But they were also involved in a battle for the Division One title with the men from Elland Road and lost out in the final season before the birth of the Premier League.
