Chelsea legend Didier Drogba has laughed off speculation that he could be about to join Championship club Aston Villa.

The Ivorian - who notched countless goals for the Stamford Bridge outfit during the prime of his career - is currently playing for Montreal Impact in MLS. He has previously enjoyed spells at Shanghai Shenhua and Galatasaray"?, but at the weekend rumours grew that the 38-year-old was set to join Villa.

Come on.It's not the China Villa club(maybe future will) https://t.co/rEn0gVso7W

It was suggested on Twitter that Drogba was actually in Birmingham to close a deal, shortly after Villa owner Dr. Tony Xia announced that they were closing in on a "world class" striker.

However, both Xia and Drogba posted on social media to cool the frenzy of speculation and confirm that no deal was about to be put in place.

Xia was asked directly by a supporter if the deal was happening, but he responded with the message: "Come on. It's not the China Villa club (maybe future will)."

Drogba also went on to tweet that he was actually just training in Canada on the day, and he was in fact not in Birmingham.

Just come out of training at @impactmontreal & a million messages & trending on Twitter saying I was in Birmingham today ??

That would have been something, wouldn't it?
