Rangers striker, Cyriel Dessers has refused to let the criticism surrounding his debut season with the club overshadowed the appreciation he gets from the fans, Nigerisoccernet.com reports,
Dessers scored 22 goals in 54 games across all competitions in his maiden campaign for the Light Blues.
Despite his impressive goal return, the Nigeria international was criticised by the club’s supporters for missing two many chances.
Rangers on Tuesday night, held their host to a 1-1 draw in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League final qualifying round against Dynamo Kiev with Dessers getting a late equalizer for his side.
Dessers after the game revealed his mental state and the side talk will not make him lose focus on the acceptance from the larger circle.
“I don’t have to answer people, I’m just doing my job for the team, for the manager, and for myself.
“That’s the only thing that matters,” Dessers was quoted by BBC.
“It would be nice to get more recognition for what you do, but I get the recognition inside the building and that’s most important.
“There are always reactions from the media or from a small part of the fans – but the bigger part of the fans gave me a lot of support and a lot of love.”
