Deco adds Sergio Busquets to Barcelona’s long-term coaching plans

Barcelona are considering Sergio Busquets as a possible future head coach, with sporting director Deco identifying the former midfielder as another potential successor to Hans-Dieter Flick.

Barcelona remain pleased with Flick’s work, but the club are already looking beyond the German’s tenure, according to reports. Top clubs routinely plan for the future, and the Catalan side have previously been linked with Cesc Fabregas and Luis Enrique as possible candidates to take charge when Flick eventually leaves.

El Nacional reports that Deco has now added Busquets to that list. The sporting director believes Busquets has the qualities to become a top-level coach.

Busquets became an assistant coach with Barcelona’s reserve team in the summer. His work with the club’s second side will be closely observed as he begins to develop his coaching career.

One possible timeframe for Barcelona to consider appointing Busquets as first-team manager is 2029. However, that plan will depend on how he performs in his role with the reserve team.
