Deborah Abiodun recorded her first NWSL assist as the Washington Spirit claimed a dramatic 2-1 victory over San Diego Wave on Sunday afternoon, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

The win marked the Spirit’s second consecutive triumph and came courtesy of a last-minute winner from forward Rosemonde Kouassi, who netted twice in front of 17,422 fans at Audi Field, the fifth-highest regular-season attendance in club history.

The Spirit started the match with attacking intent and were rewarded early when Kouassi opened the scoring in the ninth minute. The Ivorian forward headed home from close range after a determined piece of play by Abiodun, who outmuscled a San Diego defender to win possession and deliver a precise cross.

The assist was Abiodun’s first in the league and came shortly after she was named NWSL Rookie of the Month for September, highlighting her growing impact in the Washington midfield.

Kouassi later sealed the win with her second goal of the match, completing her first NWSL brace and ensuring another memorable home victory for the Spirit in front of their passionate supporters.
