Dani Carvajal set for LaLiga return with Getafe after Real Madrid exit

Former Real Madrid captain Dani Carvajal is expected to return to LaLiga with Getafe before the end of this month.

The 34-year-old left Real Madrid at the conclusion of the 2025/26 season, choosing not to take up the option of a traditional one-year contract extension. The club’s policy allows players aged 30 and over to renew their deals annually.

Carvajal began his career in Real Madrid’s youth system before moving to Bayer Leverkusen for one season. He returned to the Spanish capital in 2013 and went on to become a key member of several successful Real Madrid teams.

During his time at the club, the right-back won four LaLiga titles and six UEFA Champions League trophies. His performances also established him as a Real Madrid legend and one of the leading full-backs in world football over the past decade.

Carvajal has attracted offers from clubs in MLS, the Saudi Pro League and the Qatar Stars League. However, his preference has been to remain in Spain for family reasons.

That looks likely to happen, with Carvajal preparing to join Madrid-based Getafe on a short-term contract. Getafe are working to ensure any agreement complies with LaLiga’s salary regulations.

The move would give Jose Bordalas’ side an experienced addition as they attempt to improve their league form and manage their European commitments.

Getafe have won only two of their first seven LaLiga matches in the 2026/27 season. They are also competing in the Conference League, adding to the demands on Bordalas’ squad.
