Conte Breaks Silence Over Mikel’s Lack Of Game Time At Chelsea

Published on: 25 November 2016

Coach of English Premier League side Antonio Conte has broken his silence over the continual absence of John Obi Mikel in the match day squad of Chelsea.

The captain of the Super Eagles of Nigeria is yet to make a competitive appearance at Chelsea under the Italian manager, in what is his eleventh season at Stamford Bridge.

Unlike previous pre match conference, where the manager hardly mentioned or talk about the 29 year old, he confirmed in his press conference ahead of the game against Tottenham Hotspur that Mikel is injured.

“John Terry and Obi Mikel are not available,’ Conte reported. ‘John has a muscular problem in his gluteus, and he will be out for maybe two or three weeks, I don’t know. It’s a pity because he recovered very well from his last injury and now he needs to stop again.

‘Obi is recovering from a muscular problem and in the next week he will train with us.’
