Super Eagles international Chidozie Awaziem has joined Major Soccer League side, Colorado Rapids following his exit from Cincinnati for $1 million in General Allocation Money (GAM), the club officially confirmed, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
As revealed Cincinnati could earn up to an additional $200,000 in conditional General Allocation Money (GAM) if specific performance benchmarks are met. The club also stands to gain a portion of any future transfer fees should either player be traded within Major League Soccer (MLS) or to a league outside of North America.
“We are excited to welcome Chidozie to the Rapids. Chidozie is a leader and a powerful defender with vast experience in Europe and on the international stage, he is a strong fit for our game model and he bring added quality to our group as we look to build off a successful 2024 season and continue strengthening our team", Colorado Rapids President Pádraig Smith stated.
Awaziem's contract with the club extends through the 2025 season, with potential options for the following two years.
On the international stage, Awaziem has represented Nigeria 33 times, including six starts at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations and an appearance at the 2018 FIFA World Cup. In 2024 alone, he has featured in four matches for Nigeria, notably reaching the final of the AFCON.
