Chuba Akpom made sure that Ajax didn't start the new year on the losing end with his strike enough to complete the Dutch's side comeback against VfB Stuttgart in a friendly game, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

The friendly match between VfB Stuttgart and Ajax ended in a 2-2 draw with the German side taking a 2-0 lead within the first 20 minutes of the Dutch's side opening game of 2025 under Francesco Farioli. In the second half, Ajax fought back to equalize through an own goal and a strike by Nigerian forward Chuba Akpom to share the spoils.

The Dutch giants struggled to find their rhythm in the first half, but a pivotal moment arrived when substitute Branco van den Boomen delivered a dangerous free kick. The ball swerved towards the far post, where Daniele Rugani appeared to be poised to score. However, the ball ultimately deflected off Verona defender Julian Chabot, resulting in an own goal and giving Ajax a 2-1 lead.

The joy was short-lived, as Ajax midfielder Davy Klaassen was shown a red card for a late challenge. However, after a discussion between the two managers, the referee rescinded the decision, allowing Klaassen to remain on the field.

Verona refused to surrender, and in the latter stages of the match, Chuba Akpom leveled the score with a well-executed strike.

The second half had been a much more entertaining affair compared to the first, and the draw ultimately felt like a fair result. Despite playing an additional fifteen minutes of extra time, neither side could find a decisive goal, leaving the score at 2-2.
