"?Crystal Palace striker Christian Benteke is eager to continue his impressive recent run of form after scoring a hat-trick for Belgium on Monday night.

Benteke scored the quickest ever World Cup qualifying goal this week, netting after eight seconds before completing his treble within the hour mark during Belgium's 6-0 win over minnows Gibraltar.

Romelu Lukaku usually starts up front for the Red Devils, but manager Roberto Martinez opted for former Liverpool and Aston Villa striker Benteke, who duly repaid his boss' faith with three strikes. Axel Witsel, Dries Mertens and Eden Hazard also got their names on the scoresheet.

Benteke has also managed three Premier League goals in five appearances for Palace so far this season after his move from Liverpool, and, speaking to RTBF as "?quoted by the Daily Mail, he confirmed his desire to continue his form at club level.

"The coach told us to press high as soon as the game kicked off," Benteke revealed.

"Their defender did not anticipate the back pass well and I got ahead of him and made for the goal. The last few weeks I feel good and that you see on the field. I want to hold this form at my club."

The win took Belgium top of their group on goal difference. Greece are level on points with Belgium having beaten Estonia 2-0 on Monday, while Bosnia-Herzegovina are three points behind in third having emerged as 2-0 victors over Cyprus.

Benteke returns to club action with Crystal Palace with a home tie against West Ham on Saturday.
