Chelsea’s top-four position faces Tottenham test in Premier League London derby

Published on: 23 October 2026

Chelsea will host Tottenham on Saturday, 24 October 2026, in an eighth-round Premier League fixture between two London rivals with very different starts to the season.

Chelsea enter the derby fourth in the table after collecting 13 points from their opening seven matches. They have scored 17 goals and conceded 13, and go into the game after a 2-0 away victory against Everton in the previous round.

The result extended a generally positive run for Xabi Alonso’s side. Chelsea have lost only once in their past five matches in all competitions, while winning three of those games.

Tottenham’s position is considerably less comfortable. They have also played seven league matches, but have taken only six points and sit 16th in the table. Their goals record is 6:10, leaving them with a negative goal difference.

The visitors finally recorded their first Premier League win of the season in their most recent match, beating Coventry 3-1 at home. That victory gives Tottenham a chance to build momentum, although their recent form remains weaker than Chelsea’s: they have won once in their past five matches in all competitions.

Previous meetings and match prediction

Chelsea are considered favourites by bookmakers for the upcoming fixture.

The hosts have also won four of the clubs’ past five meetings, another statistic that places them in a strong position before the derby. Tottenham will nevertheless arrive with renewed confidence after ending their wait for a league victory against Coventry.

The match could produce an open contest, with both teams capable of finding the net. The prediction is that both Chelsea and Tottenham will score.
