Chelsea face Joao Pedro and Moises Caicedo checks before Brentford match

Published on: 17 September 2026

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has addressed the fitness of Joao Pedro and Moises Caicedo before his side’s Premier League meeting with Brentford in the fifth round of the English championship.

Joao Pedro appeared to be struggling after scoring one goal and providing an assist in Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Hull last weekend. The Brazil forward subsequently missed a training session, prompting questions over whether he would be available for the match at Brentford.

Alonso was asked about Joao Pedro’s absence during his press conference. The Chelsea manager also discussed Caicedo, whose involvement remains uncertain after the midfielder missed a significant part of the start of the season because of injury.

Joao Pedro has made an impressive contribution in his four appearances this season, scoring three goals and registering three assists.

Chelsea go into the match sixth in the table with seven points. Brentford are seventh on six points.
