Chairman Tony Xia's Tweet Sheds Some Light on Aston Villa's Transfer Plans

"?Aston Villa chairman Dr. Tony Xia has tweeted fans regarding the club's intentions in the transfer market.

Following a lengthy discussion with new Villa manager Roberto Di Matteo, Xia outlined the need to bring in both a striker and an attacking midfielder. Calling for patience while the club pursued its various targets, Xia will hope everything is in place before the Championship kicks off next weekend.

Had a long chat with RDM while still illness.working hard for the targeted striker&attacking mid. ..Weeks...I'd thank for all being patient

"?"?Making reference to the fact he's been feeling a bit under the weather, Xia's commitment to the cause will no doubt please the Villa faithful, who'll be hoping their team return to the Premier League at the first attempt. Having been ever-present since the league's inception in 1992, Aston Villa will be a noticeable absentee once the fun begins on August 13th.

With three new players having joined the club, the Claret and Blues have been relatively busy this summer, but the need for more attacking options is obvious. Villa managed a paltry 27 goals last term (comfortably the league's lowest tally) and only have Rudy Gestede, Gabby Agbonlahor and Scott Sinclair to call on up front.

Rounding off their fixtures of pre-season friendlies with a 3-1 defeat against Middlesbrough, while the Villa fans will obviously be displeased with the result, there were positives to be found in the displays of both Jack Grealish and Jordan Ayew.

Everyone connected with the club will hope that once the attacking reinforcements arrive, it'll only be a matter of time before Villa return to their rightful place as Premier League mainstays.
